Ellis Island
...an immigrants' journey
adaptation of texts by Georges Perec and Gaëlle Josse
with a musical accompaniment and projected images

22 april 2018 at 5pm
Théâtre Cité-Bleue, Geneva

In perfect resonance with the current situation, through this creation, we wish to evoke :
...and we think that this is all the more urgent because these times do not belong in the past.

These texts tell us of current news: misery, poverty, oppression, on our doorstep today as yesterday. Eduardo Kohan introduces and accompanies on the saxophone and melodica the adaptation of the text recited by Nelly Uzan. Texts and music overlap and intertwine, in parallel they are enriched by images from archives arranged and projected by Malachi Kohan, highlighting the evocation
.
The texts come  mainly from the book - Ellis Island - by Georges Perec, interweave by lines from the book - The last guardian of Ellis Island - by Gaelle Josse.
Published in 1980 - Ellis Island - results from a voyage with Robert Bober, film-maker and a friend of Georges Perec, on the traces of different immigrants, Jewish, Italian and others, who passed through this registration centre. Based on the text by Georges Perec, Robert Bober made a film – Tales from Ellis Island – which won the Festival of Florence Prize in 1980
